Abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz

"Abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz" is a song sung by Big Bird of Sesame Street. After stumbling upon the Latin alphabet, which was written in chalk on the sidewalk, he mistakes it for a very long word. With marching band-like accompaniment, he breaks into song, pronouncing the "word" as "(ab-cud-ef-gï)(jek'l-m'nâp-kwûr)(stööv-wik-ziz)." His brilliance as a bird, he thinks, will become known to all the world if he can ascertain the word's meaning. A verse lists Big Bird's assumptions of what the word might mean: "It might be kind of an elephant/Or a funny kind of kazoo/Or strange, exotic turtle/You never see in a zoo/Or maybe a kind of a doggie/Or particular shade of blue/Or maybe a pretty flower/Naah, not with a name like that, Uh uh!"
Abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz is also the set of letters which makes the Latin alphabet. If English language letter pronunciations (American variant) are used, the following is a convenient mnemonic to master the English alphabet: a-b-c-d-e-f-g h-i-j-k-l-m-n-o-p (l-m-n-o spoken twice as quickly as rest of rhyme) q-r-s t-u-v w-x y and z. (z = zee to rhyme with v, not zed) (Line breaks denote pauses in the recitation) The complete form of this traditional mnemonic adds the words now I know my abc's; next time won't you sing with me at the end. It can be sung to the popular French melody Ah! Vous dirais-je, Maman, more commonly known as the melody of "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star." When put to this music, it is often known as popular "The Alphabet Song". The Alphabet Song is popular a teaching 'tool' used in Kindergartens and Pre-Schools around the world. It provides a fun yet educational way to make young children learn the alphabet and can be used coherently with other songs like 'Old MacDonald'.
