AlkaliIn chemistry an alkali is a caustic base which produces hydroxide ions (OH-) when dissolved in water or alcohol. Common alkalis include sodium hydroxide (also called lye or caustic soda), ammonia, potassium hydroxide (also called potash), and lithia.
