Ashta-Dikpalas

In Hinduism and Vajrayana Buddhism, the Ashta-Dikpalas are the eight gods who rule the eight directions. They are:

  1. Agni - Southeast
  2. Eesana - Northeast
  3. Indra - East
  4. Kubera - North
  5. Nirrith - Southwest
  6. Varuna - West
  7. Yama - South
  8. Vayu - Northwest

The gods of the cardinal directors, Indra, Varuna, Yama and Kubera, are also known as the Lokapalas.

"I do not consider it an insult, but rather a compliment to be called an agnostic. I do not pretend to know where many ignorant men are sure -- that is all that agnosticism means." - Clarence Darrow, Scopes trial, 1925.
