AttuAttu is the westernmost island in the Aleutian Islands of Alaska. On June 7, 1942 during World War II, the Japanese invaded Attu. The day before, they had taken Kiska island. On May 11, 1943 American troops invaded Attu in an attempt to expel the occupying Japanese forces. On May 29th, the last of the defending forces committed suicide rather than be captured.
