Bill DeedesWilliam Francis Deedes, Baron Deedes, PC (born June 1, 1913), is a British journalist and politician. He was a Conservative Party member of Parliament, first elected in 1950, and entered Harold Macmillan's cabinet in 1962. He left the cabinet in 1964. He served as editor of the Daily Telegraph from 1974 to 1986. He was close to Margaret Thatcher and Denis Thatcher. He was given a life peerage in 1986. Lord Deedes was married to Evelyn Hilary Branfort (d. May 2004, by whom he had one son and three daughters. Another son died young. His son is Jeremy Deedes, Managing Director of The Telegraph group of companies. His daughter Lucy Whaley MFH (a lady master of foxhounds) was once married to the present Lord Latymer as his 1st wife. \nDeedes, Bill |
