Eric Shinseki
General Eric K. Shinseki was the 34th Chief of Staff of the United States Army, and retired from the post in 2003. During his tenure, he initiated a controversial plan to make the Army more light and fast by creating Stryker Brigade Combat Teamss.
After testifying to United States Congress that the 2003 Iraq War would require perhaps twice as many or more troops than predicted by the George W. Bush Administration and Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld, Shinseki was essentially retired by the Administration.
Shinseki is a native of Hawaii and is the only Japanese American to ever be promoted to the Army's top position.
