Spain with sections in many different sports.
Basketball
The basketball section of Barcelona produced current NBA star Pau Gasol, and won the 2003 Euroleague. Two Barça players were selected in the second round of the 2004 NBA Draft—Brazilian Anderson Varejao and Dane Christian Drejer.
Football (soccer)
By far the most famous section of Barcelona is its football section, which competes in the first division of the Spanish Football League.
Founded in 1899, Barça is based in Barcelona, Catalonia, and its home stadium is the Camp Nou, capacity 98,000 seats. Its current coach is Frank Rijkaard.
FC Barcelona has a longstanding enmity with league rivals Real Madrid, an enmity which is rooted in the club's fervent Catalan support and Madrid's supposed alliance with ex-Spanish dictator Francisco Franco. The club's founder, Joan Gamper, was a Swiss businessman who embraced Catalan nationalism so fervently that he changed his name from Hans Kamper to its Catalan equivalent.
