Felix EscalonaFélix Eduardo Escalona (born March 12, 1979) is a Major League Baseball shortstop/second baseman and right-handed batter who plays for the New York Yankees. Escalona was born in Carabobo State, Venezuela. He was signed by the Houston Astros as an amateur free agent in 1995 and drafted by the San Francisco Giants from Houston in the 2001 rule V draft. Later, he was selected off waivers by the Tampa Bay Devil Rays in 2002, making his debut in that season. In two seasons as a backup with Tampa Bay, Escalona batted .212 (39-184) with 11 RBI, 19 runs, 10 doubles, two triples, and 8 stolen bases in 69 games played. In 2004, Escalona signed a minor league contract with the Yankees and was invited to spring training.
