Floyd Council

Floyd Council (September 2 1911 - May 9 1976) was an American blues musician. Floyd was born in Chapel Hill, North Carolina to Harrie and Lizzie Council, and began his musical career on the streets of Chapel Hill in the 1920s with his two brothers, Leo and Thomas.

According to an 1969 interview, Floyd stated he had recorded 27 songs over his career, seven of them backing Blind Boy Fuller.

Floyd suffered a stroke in the 1960s which partially paralyzed his throat muscles and slowed his motor skills but he apparently remained quite sharp in mind nevertheless.

Floyd moved to Sanford, North Carolina where he died of a heart attack in 1976.

Discography

No records are available which exclusively feature Floyd's work; however, the CD "Carolina Blues" features six songs which he recorded. The series of Blind Boy Fuller's "Complete Recorded Works" contains many songs which Floyd played guitar on.
