Kapiti Coast District Council in New Zealand was formed in 1989, incorporating towns such as Paekakariki, Paraparaumu, Waikanae, and Otaki, in the north-west corner of the Wellington Region. It covers the region's fastest growth areas.

The district name is derived from the prominent island several kilometres off the coast. Some areas a little north or south of the district boundary consider themselves to be on the Kapiti Coast because Kapiti Island is prominent in their sea views.

It's a separate "region" in National Radio Weather Forecast terms.

Paraparaumu Golf Course not long ago hosted a world-famous golfer whose marketing agents took a very hard line about anyone using the name of their protege in advertising. Couldn't see the Woods for the trees?

World-class attraction a couple of kilometres north of the town centre is the Southward Car Museum.
