Micronesia is both the name of a region in the Pacific Ocean and a common name of the nation of the Federated States of Micronesia. The region consists of hundreds of small islands spread over a large region of the western Pacific.\nPolitically, it is divided between seven territories: \nthe Federated States of Micronesia (often referred to simply as "Micronesia"),\nthe Republic of the Marshall Islands,\nthe Republic of Palau,\nthe Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands,\nthe Republic of Nauru,\nthe Republic of Kiribati,\nand the Territory of Guam.\n(The first four of these formerly constituted the Trust Territory of the Pacific Islands).
