Moss, Norway

The coastal town Moss in the county of Østfold, Norway,\nhas 27,338 inhabitants as of January 1, 2002. Its administrative district covers 63 km2, including some land east of the city, like the island Dillingøy in the lake Vansjøen. Parts of the town is located on the peninsula Jeløy. The town is known for paper mills, as well as metalworks and other factories. Dillingøy is known as a place for altenative non-military civil service. Moss is mentioned since the Renaissance and was the site of the signing of the Moss convention in 1814, which firmed the union with Sweden.
