Neil Abercrombie

Neil Abercrombie (born June 26 1938), American politician, has been a Democratic member of the United States House of Representatives since 1991, representing the 1st District of Hawaii. He was born in Buffalo, New York, was educated at Union College in Schenectady, New York and the University of Hawaii (PhD 1964), and was a graduate teaching assistant, college lecturer, professor, construction apprentice program director, special assistant to the State Superintendent of Education, and a member of the Hawaii House of Representatives and the Hawaii Senate. He was first elected to the U.S. House in September 1986 to fill an unexpired term. Before entering the House again in 1991, he was a member of the Honolulu City Council.
