New York CosmosThe New York Cosmos was a franchise in the North American Soccer League which played its home games at Giants Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey. It was one of the stronger franchises, both athletically and financially, in what was overall a rather marginal league. In its later years it became somewhat renowned for signing the great Brazilian player Pelé, who though at this point well past his prime, was nonetheless one of the team's, and the league's, top gate draws during his tenure with the Cosmos. The Cosmos folded along with the rest of the league after the 1984 season. |
