Norrtälje

Norrtälje is a city in Stockholm County situated in the easten part of central Sweden. It is the chief town of the Norrtälje municipality that covers an area of 1999.6 km². The total population of the Norrtälje municipality is 54 021. 27 142 are male and 26 879 are female. The population density of the community is 26 inhabitants per km². The city it self has a population of 16 258. A lot of the houses in Norrtälje municipality are summer cottages, only inhabited during summertime. That is due to the geographical position near the archipelago which makes it a popular tourist area. In 1719 large parts of the central town that was built in wood was burnt down by russian plunderers.
