Quince
\n
Quince is a
fruit which is a type of
pome, used to make
jam and
quince pudding or (rarely) eaten raw. It is also the tree that bears the fruit. The term
marmalade, originally meaning a quince jam, derives from the
Portuguese word for this fruit
marmelo. The fruit, like so many others, can be used to make a type of
wine. The fruit has a pleasing odor and flavor but is very astringent and so is usually used in a variety of cooked and sugared forms. A few people prefer to eat quince raw, like an apple, but for most it's astringency is too great.
