Ramses III was a Pharaoh of Ancient Egypt,and is considered the last great Pharoah of Ancient Egypt, reigning in the 20th Dynasty from 1186 BC to 1154BC--alternate dates are 1196-1164 B.C. His name is sometimes rendered as Rameses; the Ancient Greeks knew him as Rhampsinitus. He fought off foreign invasions from surrounding nations, and built important temples at Medinet-Habu and Karnak. Ramses' funerary temple at Medinet-Habu is amongst the largest and best preserved in Egypt. \n \nHe is believed to have been assassinated by members of his harem. His mummy was discovered by antiquarians in 1886. His Tomb is one of the largest in the Valley of the Kings. Category:Pharaohs
