Rift (geology)

In geology, a rift is a place where the Earth's lithosphere is expanding. Rifts are frequently found at a divergent boundary between two tectonic plates. Examples of rifts include:\n* Great Rift Valley in Africa\n* Mid-Atlantic Ridge\n* throughout the Basin and Range Province in North America\n* the rift in the middle of the Gulf of Corinth in Greece
