Roberta WilliamsRoberta Heuer Williams (born February 16, 1953) is one of gaming industry's most accomplished and respected game designers and arguably the most influential female gamer of her time. In the eighties and nineties, along with her husband Ken Williams, they were leading figures in the development of graphic adventure and were dubbed the "King and Queen of Graphics Adventure." Together, they founded On-Line Systems which later became Sierra.Williams lived to create games that would later influence some of gaming's most influential titles. Her legendary storytelling and creative prowess was exhibited in titles such as the King's Quest Series, Leisure Suit Larry, Mixed-Up Mother Goose, The Dagger of Amon Ra, and many more. Williams' career spans two decades with a full and active portfolio that has had a significant contribution to the games industry. Though Sierra was sold in 1996, Roberta's production credits date until 1999. She has contributed to the fields of game design, programming, production, content, and sound. Roberta and Ken Williams' contribution to gaming was partially chronicled in the book Hackers. Roberta married Ken Williams at the age of 19. Together they have two children. The last known status of the Williams family was documented in an interview by an Asian game publication. The interview stated that they had built a house down in Mexico and planned to move there for a while. In the interview, Roberta promised her return to the game industry as soon as she figured out how to combine the Adventure genre with massively-multiplayer online gaming. |
