R is the eighteenth letter of the Latin alphabet. Semitic Rêš (the head) developed into Greek Ρω (Rô). The sound value /r/ however was maintained in Greek as well as Etruscan and Latin. Romeo represents the letter R in the NATO phonetic alphabet.
