Ultrasaurus

Discovered in 1979 in the same Colorado rock formation that Supersaurus was found, Ultrasauros revealed a new concept of dinosaur size. The fossil remains include an arm and shoulder girdle, which claim a 26 foot (8 m) ground to shoulder height. Ultrasauros was most likely bigger than Supersaurus, measuring possible 100 feet (30 m) long. As Supersaurus was, it was related to the Diplodocus. Ultrasauros may have weighed as much as 130 US tons, dwarfing the 100 ton Blue Whale. If this is true, it would make Ultrasauros the largest animal to ever live on Earth. Ultrasauros was named in 1985 by Dr. J. Jensen. Time: Jurassic period Where: North America (Colorado) Name Meaning: Ultra lizard Pronunciation: ULL-tra-SAW-rus Order: Saurischia Suborder: Sauropodomorpha \nNote: Ultrasauros is no longer considered valid. Now its remains are regarded as belonging to Supersaurus. The correct spelling of this animal's name is not Ultrasaurus, but Ultrasauros. Ultrasaurus is a dubious genus of sauropod described in 1983 by Kim, which was first thought to be gigantic. When Jensen tried to describe this animal, he wanted to use Ultrasaurus, but the name was preoccupied, so he used Ultrasauros instead.
