University of Engineering and Technology, Lahore
University of Engineering and Technology, Lahore, is one of the leading engineering
universities of
Pakistan, and the oldest of them all, offering Bachelor, Master, and Doctoral degrees in a variety of disciplines. It is located on
Grand Trunk Road, Mughalpura,
Lahore, and is within a distance of a couple of kilometers from
Shalimar Gardens.
It started as
Mughalpura Technical College in
1921 during the
British Raj. Two years later it was renamed to
Maclagan College of Engineering when Sir Edward Maclagan, the Governor of
Punjab at that time, inaugurated the construction of the main building. Finally in
1961, after it was awarded the university charter, the current name was adopted.
An alumni or student of the institute is popularly referred to as a
UETian. The institute is most famous for its undergraduate studies owing to the fact that it is the top priority of higher secondary school graduates of
the province. Since only the best students of the whole province manage to get admitted here, UETians are often collectively called ‘the cream of the nation.’
The faculty consists of over 250 individuals out of whom, more than 80 have doctoral degrees from reputed institutes of
US and
UK.
