WovokaBorn Jack Wilson, Wovoka (~1856-1932) was a Northern Paiute Indian prophet during the late 1800s whose revelations emboldened the Ghost Dance movement. The Ghost Dance was a ritual that spread throughout the Native American population in the Western United States and inspired them to resist assimilation into European society. Wovoka's revelations were influenced by his contact with Christianity.External link\n*The Messiah Letter by Wovoka, translated by James Mooney Category:Native American leaders |
